A real estate agent who ran afoul of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry Real Estate Division last year for unethical practices is still causing problems for local property owners, an official with the state regulatory agency said. In November, the Real Estate Commission found Eric Alpert, owner of Sherlock Homes Realty in Las Vegas, in violation of Nevada Revised Statutes for claiming “abandoned” homes and renting them to tenants without the owner’s knowledge or consent. He was fined $27,000 and his real estate license was suspended for six months, effective Feb. 11, the date of the order, said Matt DiOrio, information officer for the Real Estate Division. Alpert is appealing the commission’s decision, contending it was predetermined and that he didn’t receive a fair hearing. “Now it’s a matter of the judicial review process,” DiOrio said.
