14 attorneys, academics honored by Bar

The State Bar of Arizona is handing out 14 honors this week during its annual convention at the Phoenician resort. Veronika Fabian and Denise Young each will receive the award as Sharon A. Fullmer Legal Aid Attorney of the Year. Fabian handles consumer protection cases at the Tempe firm of Choi, Rhee & Fabian. She spent nine years at DNA People’s Legal Services Inc. in Flagstaff. Young, whose practice is in Tucson, represents indigent defendants facing a death sentence. Donald Carson and Myles V. Lynk earned the non-lawyer Award of Appreciation. Carson is a former head of the University of Arizona journalism department. Lynk teaches corporations, business litigation and administrative law at ASU. Steven Hirsch and Judge Michael Owen Miller each have been named Member of the Year. Hirsch is a partner at the Phoenix office of Bryan Cave. Miller is a Pima County Superior Court judge who chairs the Bar’s Ethical Rules Review Group. Walter Cheifetz, who works of counsel for Cheifetz Iannitelli and Marcolini in Phoenix, received an Award of Special Merit. Cheifetz has practiced law in Arizona for 52 years. Judge Michael Daly Hawkins was selected the James A. Walsh Outstanding Jurist. Hawkins, a 9th U.S. Circuit Court judge since 1994, is a former U.S. attorney for Arizona. More : azcentral.com |
